About The Artist
—
Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Navasia Jay, also known as Ava Vay.
Born in Harlem and raised in Yonkers, I’ve faced many challenges in life. Art became my escape, a way to disconnect from a difficult reality. I experienced abuse as a child, entered the foster system at 16, and was homeless by 18, only finding stability at 25. Throughout it all, art was my constant companion. I’m a self-taught artist, skilled in both traditional and digital mediums, though I now prefer digital art. What began as doodles in my school notebooks evolved into a cartoon-like style that I’ve made my own.
For me, art is therapy. It has also become a business where I share my journey, helping others realize they aren’t alone in life’s struggles. Each of my pieces is paired with an affirmation because I believe that having positive reminders in front of us is more powerful than letting them linger in the back of our minds, where they can be forgotten. Art helps us remember who we are, what we are, and why we are.
Anything Vay Arts (A.V.A) are for people who:
Seek healing through art: If you’re looking to find solace and healing through creative expression, this is for you. Art has a unique ability to help us process emotions, reduce stress, and find peace. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, stress, or simply looking for a way to reconnect with yourself, art can be a powerful tool for healing.
Interested in mindfulness: If you’re drawn to mindfulness practices, art can be a meditative experience that enhances your ability to stay present and grounded. Through mindful art-making, you can cultivate a deeper awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and the world around you, helping you to live more fully in the moment.
Mental health awareness: For those passionate about mental health, art can be a vital part of raising awareness and breaking stigmas. It can be a way to express and communicate complex emotions and experiences that might be difficult to put into words, helping to foster understanding and empathy.
Personal growth: If you’re on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, art can be a powerful tool for reflection and self-expression. Creating art allows you to explore your inner world, gain insights into your thoughts and feelings, and chart your growth over time.
Art enthusiasts: If you have a passion for art, whether as a creator or admirer, you’ll find deep satisfaction in exploring how art can be more than just a visual experience. It can be a transformative process that enriches your life and deepens your appreciation for creativity.
Wellness advocates: If you’re committed to promoting overall well-being, integrating art into wellness practices can offer a holistic approach to health. Art can be a therapeutic outlet that supports mental, emotional, and even physical wellness.
Individuals interested in self-improvement: If you’re focused on improving yourself and enhancing your quality of life, engaging with art can provide a unique avenue for self-improvement. It offers a way to explore your emotions, reduce stress, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself, contributing to your overall growth and well-being.
